During Wyoming's territorial days and early statehood (achieved in 1890), gambling was widespread but unregulated. Wyoming tribes developed four land-based casinos on the Wind River Reservation, owned by two federally recognized tribes: Northern Arapaho and Eastern Shoshone. All four are located on the Wind River reservation, an extremely long drive from Cheyenne (the state capital), and remain open year-round except over Christmas and Easter. These tribal casinos offer slots, poker, and table games, providing Wyoming's only land-based casino option.

Sports betting was legalized in Wyoming in 2021, marking the state's first major gambling expansion in decades. Online horse betting is also sanctioned by the state. In 2024, Wyoming contracted Spectrum Gaming Group to study the feasibility of legalizing real-money online casino gaming, including slots, poker, and blackjack. Bills were introduced in 2025 to authorize internet gaming, but a combination of legislative fatigue, uncertainty around social impacts, and concerns over gambling expansion led to the bill's early demise. Several co-sponsors have indicated interest in bringing it back, potentially in 2026.
